About

Here’s a funny thing we at Babble have noted with increasing alarm: The most visible mothers in our society right now are the ones on tabloids. Deserving or not, women who have babies and can pose two weeks later in a bikini have become our role models, our focal point through the strange, amazing and occasionally hilarious territory of motherhood.

What if, we asked ourselves, we could do one small thing to change that? What if we could shine a light on some of the most fascinating, influential moms in the world, real women who can show us how empowering being a mom can be?

Welcome to Mominations, our attempt to catalogue and celebrate some of the most inspiring mothers who have changed the world for the better. Yes, motherhood is a huge investment of time and emotional energy, but that hasn’t stopped these women from making a profound impact on the lives around them, often crediting motherhood for their drive. Proving that being a mom doesn’t divorce you from your thoughtfulness, ambition or ability to get things done, these women are leaders in their fields, influencers whose thinking has spread into every corner of our lives.

And this list is just the beginning. There are many more mothers in the world whose contributions have been phenomenal, which is why we are asking you to nominate anyone we might have missed, from your council woman to your community activist to that mom down the street.

Mominations is your chance to shine a light of recognition on an incredible mom doing good work, and put her in the running for one of ten prizes of $5,000 toward her favorite charity or project. To nominate a mom, just follow these directions. Nominated moms will then be voted on by the viewing public at http://mom.babble.com/mom/mominations/leading-mominees/, so be sure to get the word our and promote your nominee’s cause! NOTE: Due to tremendous response, we’ve extended the voting deadline by two weeks! Voting now ends on September 20, and our panel of judges will announce the winners on September 27. Help us acknowledge and applaud the moms and the great work they’ve done in making the world a better place; nominate a mom today.
