One of the world's foremost nonviolent activists, Haidar has devoted her life and her body to protesting human rights abuses that are occurring in the battle between Morocco and Sahrawi activist groups in Western Sahara. Starting her protest campaign at age 21, the mother of two was arrested during a peaceful protest in 1987 and "disappeared" in a secret detention center without trial for the next four years. Released after four years of torture, Haidar returned to the ranks but was detained, beaten, and imprisoned again for seven months during a peaceful 2005 demonstration. She has never let up; Haidar, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, the recipient of the 2008 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award, and a Civil Courage Prize honoree, tours the globe speaking out against human rights abuses.

  • We ask all the peace loving people to vote for Mrs. Haidar because her peaceful sstruggle for justice and peace for the Saharawi People has been reccognized all over the world and by important institutions like the RF kennedy Foundation. Aminatou Haidar is a woman that sacrificed her life for struggling for human rights not only in her country: Western Sahara, but also in all the planet. We think that she must be in this important list of moms that are changing the world because she an example of emancipation and struggle for peace and justice.

  • I vote for this women who has suffered so much. There are so many others who are no longer able to speak or are in fear to speak out about the atrocious cruelty done to women and children. I just watched the movie,The Stoning of Soraya M. A true story of a women in Iran who under SHARIA LAW was murdered for the convenience of her husband who wanted a divorce without financial support for his wife and 2 daughters. She refused to give it, so he lied and had others lie about her infidelity with another man. She was then stoned to death by the village who vowed to “Honor God” and to restore honor to the village and said husband( who had a child bride of 14 to marry after he had his wife killed) We in the West have no Idea what horrors women face under these BARBARIC and IN HUMAN LAWS.
