Christiane Amanpour
Name a major journalism award, and this ABC correspondent has won it. Holding a walloping nine News and Documentary Emmys, four Peabody Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award, the Courage in Journalism Award, and an honorary citizenship to Sarajevo for her coverage of the Bosnian war, Amanpour easily ranks among the creme de la creme of journalists. Raised in Tehran, the 53-year-old star of This Week with Christiane Amanpour cut her teeth in the early ’90s as an international correspondent for CNN. Since then she's been on the front lines of many of the world's most disastrous conflicts, including the Afghanistan war, September 11, Hurricane Katrina, and the Rwandan genocide. Amanpour's strength as a journalist lies in the fact that she's razor sharp, equally comfortable interviewing survivors in combat as she is world leaders, and delivers hard-hitting reports without the cleavage, Botox, or dumbed-down questions that have become all but standard on televised news. With this mother of one, it's just the facts — and that's how we like it.
