My friend Becky suffered for years when her dream of becoming a mother would not come true. Endless miscarriages, five cycles of failed IVF, and hundreds of thousands of dollars down the drain, Becky and her husband turned to adoption. When she found out how expensive it was to adopt, she realized there was something wrong with the adoption system in the US. If only married hetero couples who worked in finance could afford adoption, how could people without means, or gay people, build families and realize their dreams of being parents? Becky started helpusadopt out of her living room, and has since helped build 43 families. Another thing about Becky, she was committed to helping single moms, gay parents... her org is totally open to all kinds of people who want to be parents. She believes in family, period. She has lost many donors for this reason. She also has a hilarious blog called an infertile blonde. Please consider Becky! The more attention this issue gets, the more children who will be adopted and find familes, and the more people will fulfill their dreams of becoming parents.

  • I just found you through a mutual friend, I am overwhelmed at the costs to have the honor of being a “Mommy” to a child.
After reading your story, I know that I was led to you … We seem very much alike in making and paving trails to places. I ADMIRE that so much in you.
I am sure that we will talk and I look forward to meeting you possibly this October .. I wish you all the best in this contest, every penny counts!!

God Bless You – And Please Everyone keep these votes coming in to an incredible role model!! ( and fellow blonde ) :) xoxo

  • Becky has really struck a chord between two issues that together point to a single problem. If only the wealthy can afford to adopt, and the prejudice continues for Ward-and-June-Cleavers only, this is a terrible barrier between a potentially great parent and a child who needs one. I hope Becky gets media coverage for her examplary and positive response. Agencies and state policies need to open up the process to all loving adults, and policy makers need to reduce the financial demand or support families to meet those needs with direct funds or creative policies that credit agencies that waive fees.

  • I think what Becky is doing is just wonderful. But I also want to let everyone know that there are thousands of children/babies in our foster care system who need “forever families.” My husband & I have cared for 35 newborns, one at a time (except for the twin girls!) over the past 14 years. It is another option that is a beautiful way to create a family.

  • Becky has given me hope that one day I will be able to have a family. After 2 rounds of IVF and stage 4 endometriosis we were told last year I will never be able to have my own children. We started looking into adoption but quickly found out how expensive it was and our dreams once again seemed gone. But after reading this article in People Magazine, I have hope again of having a family. Thank you Becky!!!

  • We have struggled for 9 years to concieve a child of our own and unfortunately it has not happened. When I read the story of Becky and her own personal drive to help couples make their dream of having a family come true, I cried thinking of her sacrifice she is making for others to finally have what she has. She is a true hero and a true gift to us all.

  • My husband and I have spent 17 years struggling to conceive, withouth success. Projects like Becky’s give future parents like myself and my husband hope that an average couple can have that dream, too one day… Her blog is a source of comfort and inspiration and reminds us that others are feeling the same way, have navigated the same harsh and rocky path, and that for some of us, there’s hope at the end. Vote for this blog so Becky can continue to inspire hope…

  • I read the article on Becky in “People” and I was so touched by it. My husband has cystic fibrosis, so we are unable to have children naturally. Luckily, we had two tries at in vitro fertilization and both tries worked! I have a beautiful 17 month old, and I am currently pregnant with my second child. I have always wanted children, and I would have been devastated if it could not have been. I think it’s the most genreous and heart-warming gesture that someone could ever offer… the ability for a family to have a child…. and for a child to have a family. If I could, I’d vote for Becky a million times!!

  • We adopted our two children and are so happy that Becky Fawcett has created a way for people like us to help other forever families.

  • What needs to happen is serious changes in the adoption processes in this country and for it to be more about the children instead of money. It is suppost to be all in the best interest of the child but right now it is all in the best interrest in the system. they do not want children to be adopted because that means less money from the government for there agentcy. If it where really for the children then it wouldn’t be so hard to adopt a child. Yes there should be qualifications to meet and check ups once adoption happens but it shouldn’t be as if the government is trying to prevent adoptions. What ever needs to happen to change the system then it needs to happen because children are worth it. No child needs grow up in government facilities if there are families willing to give them a good loving home. It’s sad because so many loving ppl are willing to be that loving parent if only the government would stop preventing it. This country has fallin so far since it’s founding principles. It’s a shame.

  • This is AMAZING… I am a firm believer and supporter of adoption, and for so many it seems like an impossible dream, and a very lonely road. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for giving people who may have little hope the extra boost they need.
