Shanna Marsh
category charity
website http://www.laylagrace.org
Shanna Marsh lost her youngest baby in March 2010 to Neuroblastoma, but she has not let cancer win. Shanna uses the foundation her family created to raise money and awareness for this disease. The Layla Grace Children's Cancer Research Foundation promotes awareness, provides information for families struggling with childhood cancer and shares stories of other children who are fighting this brave battle. Shanna has used her heartbreak and unimagineable loss to help other families, while trying to keep her family strong during life after Layla. Though I have never met Shanna, she is my hero and the things that she and her family do inspire me each and every single day. She manages to provide support and love for others struggling with the same fight her family so valiantly fought, parent her older daughters Jenna and Claire and share her beautiful angel with the world to give a face to this monster. Layla's message will sweep the nation, and I know it will change this world, and Shanna is truly the voice for that message.

Layla is in our hearts forever!

Layla was 16 months when Shanna found out she had cancer. My Brylee was 16 months when I found out about Layla, and it was just too close to home. Shanna’s faith and grace was an amazement to me, as she just had to accept her Layla was God’s angel…everything Layla has inspired her to do, and everything she has accomplished through Layla is like moving mountains…not sure what the winner gets, but Shanna, and any other mom that has lost their child, deserve so much more. Makes me hold my babies much tighter. God bless her, her family, and Layla’s organization.

Even well over a year after the loss of Layla, Shanna’s faith and determination to cure childhood cancer inspires me. I stand in awe of every mountain that she moves in her precious baby’s name. Shanna will live on Layla’s legacy and make sure that more children dont have to suffer and lose their life like her baby did… She is a true inspiration and a hero. Layla would be so, so proud.

Layla Grace and her bravery, compassion, love for life, and sacrafice will never be forgotton… her name is a household name in our home and her story inspires and gives us strength, it reminds us of how special life is and just how blessed we are. i have a 1mo. old, 2 1/2 and 41/2 year old and when layla earned her wings i had a child that was an age layla would never be, and a child 6mo younger… this so hit close to home and made me think of the unimaginable…. im one of those parents who now hug more and longer and realizes how quickly what we take for granted can change… the Marsh family and Laylas foundation will always have a special place in our families heart!

i have never met Shanna or Layla but my prayers and heart go out to the family . . . your precious child is soooo beautiful . . . i am so so sorry . . Last year in july our daughter Megan went into labor with her first baby and while in labor they found she had cancer , AML . . (the worst and fastest moving). . . two weeks before she was perfectly healthy . . If she had not gone into labor a week early both she and the baby would most likely have died . . the baby, rylee, was born healthy . . Chemo began immediately for Meg . . 3 rounds of chemo and one bone marrow transplant later she passed away from the ravages of the treatment . . she spent 4 months in the hospital, one precious week at home with her husband and baby, rylee, and with not one complaint. she always responded with a thank you and a smile on her face until the end, when our daughter went home to God . . . Layla is an angel and i will always remember her beautfiul face . . you are not alone . . . You are not Alone ! http://www.prayersformegan.com . . . You are not Alone !

God bless you, I hope your organization continues to grow. Through the deepest tragedies comes a willfulness that is unsurpassed, your daughters memory will live on forever.

I followed Layla’s story from early on. Shanna and her husband Ryan held strong while their beautiful daughter was battling this monster. They remained unbelievably gracious as they watched their daughter wither away. Shanna reached out to help so many others. Her strength and grace are amazing. If anyone is deserving of an award like this it’s Shanna Marsh. I have never met this family although Layla remains in my heart always. I pray for this family every day, that God continues to give them the strength to raise their two beautiful daughters and remain strong.

God Bless You.

Such a heartbreaking story from the begning, Shanna has turned what the worst time in her life into something benefiting other families affected by the horrific disease. Thanks for being you Shanna!

As the Layla Grace story unfolded I followed it very closely. Perhaps because my little boy was only a month younger than Layla, perhaps because we too had spent so much time at Texas Children’s Hospital, or perhaps just because I was riveted by the strength and faith of this amazing family. Whatever the reason, Layla has changed my life forever! As well as many many others. This family is a reminder to me that I need to cherish every moment I have with my children and that no matter what problems we have God will help us make it through! Truly amazing story! No one deserves this award more than Shanna Marsh!

My daughter and Layla were born on the same day, same year. It was very hard for me to hear about her and her journey because it was very close to home. No one knows why one child becomes sick and another one does not. I was immediately impressed with Shanna’s strength and her determination, and I’ve watched her build this foundation and do so many amazing things with it. She’s truly a hero.
-
Shanna is everything you hope and pray you will be when faced with life’s most appalling crisis. I have followed and supported this family for a long time, and she will never stop humbling and amazing me. God Bless The Marsh Family! Layla Grace inspires the world, but she belongs to them.
-
Layla remains in my heart, Shanna and Ryan are an inspiration to me, never loosing faith and loving though this battle. God Bless you all.

Layla was the most perfect kid that I never got to meet. Her spirit lives, everyone who reads her story will never be able to forget that beautiful face… What Layla’s mom is doing is great.

my lifelong friend lost her 6 1/2 yr old son to neuroblastoma…Treiton has been gone 3 yrs now, and I will never forget this wonderful little boy…he truly was an inspiration to everyone who met him in his short time. How any mother gets thru such a loss amazes me…am glad Shanna has been able to turn her anguish into something productive that may help other children. Blessings to her, her family, and this organization.

My grandson, Gabrial Latham, is the same age as Layla, was diagnosed with the same type of cancer around the same time Layla was diagnosed, and went through the same medical protocol she was. We followed her story daily. We cried along with the world when beautiful Layla earned her wings.Gabrial continues to fight the Neuroblastoma monster every day. And every single day is a blessing with him. Thank you Shanna for being an inspiration, for your courage and bravery to help others find the strength as they watch their babies battle this monster that takes them way too early. My heart just aches for them.

In memory of Layla!
I never thought I could love or miss a baby who I never met! <3 She is always in my heart, mind, & soul!

Shanna and all of her family are so strong, and they are absolutely an amazing family. Even though they had to experience a parents worst nightmare, through the grace of God they have been doing everything in their power to put an end to the horrible disease that took their beautiful daughter Layla Grace. I pray that God blesses them over and over again for the hard work they are doing to try and prevent another sweet child from the horrible suffering they themselves had/are going through, and what they had to watch their angel Layla go through. Shanna and Ryan both deserve to be nationally recognized for their courage and amazing work they are doing by trying to end the evil childhood cancer that stole their sweet Layla from them. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with Ryan and Shanna, as they will forever have to deal with the heartache and suffering of having their baby taken from them by a horrific disease that no child or family should have to go through.
-
Followed Layla Grace and her family and cried but was amazed at the strength, grace and courage they showed during such a difficult time. The wonderful things they have done and are doing since Layla got her wings is truly remarkable and inspiring! They deserve to be honored with this as it will truly benefit the foundation!

Thank you for sharing your grace with all of us. Because of you and Layla Grace’s life story, so many families dealing with NB are being helped and encouraged. You will always be in our prayers.

Voted. Layla Grace has always had and will always have a special place in my heart.

I will never forget sweet Layla Grace. I am also one of those who never knew it was possible to love someone I had never met…but I can say sweet Layla changed that. Shanna and Ryan were the best parents she could have wished for and they are always in my heart and prayers.
-
I’m sorry you lost your baby. I think it’s great that you are raising awareness and trying to get it out there. I hope that you win

So unfortunately I can’t remember any of my passwords to like or to tweet.. but last year I lost my seven year old cousin to cancer. So you most definitely have my vote.

Shanna and Layla have changed me to my core. This doesn’t happen to just
anyone. This kind of mom/child is “selected” for the most important role of their lives. Praise God for them! And the inspirational lives that they lead! -
My heart goes out to you. Can’t imagine what you have went through. I know a mom who literally could not go on, who went through what you have. God Bless and prayers for strength and courage. Great that you are raising awareness.
-
PLEASE,Please vote for Shanna & her goregouse & wonderful baby Layla Grace Marsh <3 thankyou! x

This mom echoes in my head every day. I read her blog often and it inspired me to be the best mommy I could be to my little girl. One day she said something about wishing she could have her little girl underfoot again instead of complaining about the times she had been before her diagnosis. This stayed on my heart as I deal with the day-to-day as a mom I think of how lucky I am to have just one more day with my precious daughter.
-
She deserves to win. Instead of talking about HATE and resentment and using foul language and blamming Dr’s for their loss, like another, she inspires the rest of us to keep going, Layla Grace always in our hearts and in our prayers! Yes, WE still beliee in God and do not take his name in vain. To all our little warriors we love you, and you wn’t find hate in Shanna’s writing, but you will in others.
-
You are amazing more people should be as committed to such a great cause. Layla Grace is forever with us…

You go girl!

I followed each moment of this journey & held unmeasureable hope & love for a baby girl that I had never met. I love the power & strength that Shanna & Ryan, and girls have put together for this charity. All the events & functions…simply amazing. I simply can NOT believe that with all of the BriLLant people in this world that we can not get any closer to finding a cure. I HATE CANCER and am SURE that if I were to loose my baby, I would find MANY of curse words & people to blame. Everyone handles greif different, as for me… I am a total basket CASE!
Love you Texas Momma!

Crossing my fingers and hope you win win win!! Again, like I said before, it is so encouraging to be inspired by you as we have Neuroblastoma in our family, and not have to be bombarded wIth hate and negativity! We all struggle with this pain and we have lost so many that we follow, each mother AND father of a child with cancer deserves not to go through this, and we all do deserve respect and positive words for our children STILL fighting for their lives.
We loved our angels we lost to this disgusting beast, we loved them like our own. You and your family have helped us, given us the positive words that make us want to FIGHT. No one deserves to loose their child it is NOT fair. You hold yourself with CLASS and empathy towards others and we all need to FIGHT for this cure. We can’t give up, period. Thank you to you and your family again for your class and empathy and pure love you have shown us all. Layla Grace is in my prayers every day and all the children fighting and finding a CURE!!!
-
Layla Grace Marsh was such a sweet angel that many of us followed throughout her short life but she taught many of us about life. The prayers flowed every day for Layla Grace and the Marsh family until Jesus wrapped his arms around her and took her to sing and fly with the other Angels. The Marsh family is such an inspiration and never out of our thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Your family is amazing! I would love to meet you all over any famous person any day. I followed layla’s story and it made me more aware how precious life is and thankful for the 3 blessings I have in my life. You are doing your purpose, letting layla live on and fighting like hell for the other victims out there! I hope you win:)
