Many people appreciate the beauty of coral reefs, but few dedicate their lives to the preservation of these underwater wonders. Stephanie is a marine scientist for The Nature Conservancy, working alongside fellow scientists, governments, and local communities to protect the environment. Her work benefits not only the planet, but all of us, who depend on the planet to live. As Stephanie says, "It sounds cliché, but I do it for my children, and for their children, too."

"I recently met an amazing woman who had gone on a trip to visit friends in Thailand and was shocked to learn about boys enslaved in the sex trade in Chiang Mai. She decided to stay and build a place that was safe for those boys. Today she runs Urban Light and works to rescue them from sex trafficking and prostitution and the drug addiction and illness that comes with it. She operates on a shoestring budget, and I know that this support will help her enroll her boys in English classes, get health check-ups, and meet their basic needs. It is an amazing feeling to be able to help a 30-year-old young woman who has taken on the difficult and rewarding role of mother to this group of boys so much in need of one." — Stephanie Wear
