Ever have one of those days where something so powerful happens that you feel like your heart is actually growing? Welcome to every day at Babble since late July, when we first started our Mominations contest. Inspired by the mothers around the world who have changed the way we live, think, and care for each other, we asked all of you to nominate your own favorite inspirations — moms who have made an impact on your lives.

And then the nominations started pouring in.

We'd be lying if we said we didn't cry when we read some of these. Or that we didn't wish at times this wasn't a competition, but just an open call in which we could reward every deserving individual. But somehow, hearing these stories from all of you — these inspiring stories of every day women who are getting out and doing extraordinary things — proved to be one of the most compelling steps we've taken as a company. Our hearts are changed.

Despite the good feelings and compelling stories all around, we have gotten some criticism about bloggers affiliated with Babble being nominated for the prizes. We considered how it might seem unfair, but we didn't want to interfere with whomever our readers wanted to nominate. We also felt comfortable letting that happen because the prizes won't go to any single individual, but rather the charity or cause that the winners deem most worthy. And we know first-hand that all of the other women nominated are fully deserving of recognition and praise. A shout-out to all of you.

We hope that you all are as inspired as we are by these stories, reminded as we are that motherhood and world change are not at cross-purposes; they are two peas in a pod. We are so moved by these stories that we are developing an entirely new section of Babble called Babble Cares that will celebrate similar stories on a monthly basis — more on this to come.
